WHY WEAR LIP LINER?

Hey Blossoms,

MY LOGO INSPIRED THIS POST:

So today's question is: WHY WEAR LIP LINER?

***KEY NOTE: ALWAYS EXFOLIATE LIPS BEFORE PLACING ON ANY LIP PRODUCT***

Before answering that we must first explain what lip liner is and what's its purposes, the pros and cons.

Pencil lip liners

Retractable lip liners

Lip liner is a pencil or retractable pencil that is used to line the rim of the mouth. It's purpose is to define the mouth and prevent lipstick and gloss from "bleeding" or running onto the outer rim of the mouth. Also to even out the rim of the lips for a more defined shape. Lip liner comes in many different colors and can be a god send for those wanting to try bold lip colors. Let me explain, I love red lipstick but sometimes I'll find a shade of red that I love but it's far to bright to just place directly on my lips. What I'll do is line my lips with a medium to dark brown lip liner and then apply the lipstick. I'll blot my lips together meshing the lip liner lightly into the lipstick thus allowing for a nice transition from my skin tone to the lip liner and then to the lipstick. I've included pictures to show you exactly what I mean.

Some even use lip liner to make the lips appear smaller by lining the lips on the inside rim of the lips(top, bottom,or both) and using concealer or foundation to cover the natural lip line. Here's a few photos to show you what I mean

Or lip liner can be used to make the lips appear bigger by lining the outside rim of the lips and some even create a crest right at the top of the lip if they don't naturally have one. Here's a few photos to show you what I mean.

Or lip liner can be used to help create unique editorial, avant garde or costume lip looks. Check out these photos

A key to remember in lining your lips to appear bigger or smaller is to make a sutle change. Don't try and go from thinner lips to Angelina Jolie shaped lips because it'll look very unnatural and the same goes for reverse. Another trick to making lips appear fuller is to add lip gloss! And to appear smaller skip the lipgloss and stick with a matte shade of lipstick! (Note: shine/gloss finish makes lips instantly appear fuller)

I believe the only con of wearing lip liner is that if you dont use a smudgeproof/waterproof one it can fade quickly and the reverse of that is a highly pigmented lip liner can stain your lips but it can be removed with a little extra rubbing and makeup remover. I dont believe its any more a risk of either types of lip liners than what you take wearing lip balm, lip tint, lipgloss, lipsticks or lip stains or anything else on your lips...I'll explain the difference in all in another post.

All in all lipliner is an accessory to lipstick or lipgloss(yes you can wear lipliner along with JUST lipgloss) and isn't a necessity in the overall makeup application steps but it does have it's benefits. Not wearing lip liner you run the risk of having your lipstick or lipgloss "bleed" onto the outer rim of your lips and make the shape of your lips looks a little distorted. Another pro of lipliner is if you use it to fill in the lips and place lipstick over it your lipstick will last longer! Yes a proven fact! Think of it as a primer for your lips! If you use a lipliner the same color as your lipstick and use this technique as your lipstick fades you will still have a "stain" of color on your lips, as oppose to your lipstick completely fading away leaving no color. We all know that sometimes you can't run to the restroom or open your compact mirror for a touch up/ re application so this is a boost for your lip colors staying power!

Hope you enjoyed!

 Until Next Time,

CELEBRITY INSPIRED MAKEUP MAKEOVER!

Hey Blossoms,

I'm back with another Sherry Blossom MUMO: MakeUp Makeover! This look was inspired by Kandi Burruss.

Kandi Burruss is a R&B singer, songwriter and record producer. She is best remembered for being a former member of Xscape. After Xscape disbanded, Burruss went on to help produce and write hits like TLC's "No Scrubs", and Destiny's Child "Bills,Bills,Bills" and "Bug A Boo" and even Pink's debut single "There You Go". Burruss was the first African-American woman to win ASCAP's Songwriter of the Year Award (2000). Most recently, she is best known for her debut in the second season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

A childhood friend of mine flipped through a hair magazine and decided she wanted to go with a makeup look that was worn by Kandi Burress.

In the photo Kandi made great use of purple, lavender and pink. I thought the look was fun and definitely doable so we began.

I did not get a chance to snap a before photo(sorry blossoms I will try harder to remember sometimes you just get caught up in the excitement of a makeover!)

So on my childhood friend, I used a stick foundation, filled in and shaped her brows(she didn't get a chance to get them shaped no worries I made the brows up to look as if she had just came from the eyebrow salon), I used MAC's stars and rockets eyeshadow(lavender color with a iridescent purple glow) on her entire eyelid and stopped just below her crease and blended the color out for a softer look.I also used MAC's star violet(purple color with lighter lavender flecks) along her lower lash line to complete the eyeshadow look and make the eyes POP with color even more, black mascara to upper and lower lashes to open up her eyes more by defining her lashes and lash line, blush and a berry and pink colored lipstick and clear lipgloss went on to finish the look! See the results! She looked gorgeous, Kandi Burruss inspired but still unique to her face and skin tone!

This look was definitely fun to recreate and my friend had fun as well. She's a wonderful girl! Always on the go, a young woman with a degree in Journalism, she is a managing editor and writer for www.africastyledaily.com. As usual, a happy client and my work is done(until next time!) Stay tuned for more Sherry Blossom MakeUp MakeOvers(MUMOs)!!!! Later Blossoms!

THE MARY JANE MODELS

I freelanced at a gig where I was one of 5 makeup artists. We were there to make up the Mary Jane models for that nights event where they were to pick 4 new Mary Jane Model members. I made up 2 models.

They were beautiful women and very high spirited. The excitement for who would join their team of models that night was definitely permeating the room. The atmosphere was definitely that of nightlife. So many models trafficking in an out of the make up area, outfit changes and alterations, everyone talking at once, laughter, jokes and lots of smiling. The makeup artist were busy at work fixing and primping and powdering and anything else that needed to be done to make these ladies look even more fabulous. I took a few digi cam photos and it captured some of the beauty for a full effect you definitely had to be there in person.

This gig was really fun. It allowed for a massive amount of creativity. The idea was to make the ladies looks "POP" with color & creativity! Nothing was off limits.

The ladies were good sports too allowing their faces to be a canvas for such abstractness. The end result was definitely sexy! A night we will all remember. Big thanks to those ladies for allowing me to take photographs of them for my personal use. And whats a gig without the famous makeup artist and client picture(thank goodness I remembered I usually forget or the client leaves as you can tell from the pictures she was just about to walk out the door!) I was so excited I had remembered that I to grab 2 photos!

Thanks for reading about this fun event. Many more gigs and pictures to follow. If you have any questions, comments or suggestions feel free to email me or leave them below. Later, Blossoms

SHERRY BLOSSOM BEAUTY

So I've finally arrived! Blog World! LOL

A little background on me. My name is Sherry. I'm a budding freelance makeup artist and makeup/beauty blogger. I've always been a writer more specifically a poet. I never thought this is what I would wind up doing for the world to see but here I am! I've never been happier.

First I'm not a makeup expert, guru, fashionista or the greatest there ever was. I'm a regular person that just loves makeup and being a makeup artist. I am an "everyday woman". That's what I'm shaping this blog around and that's what type of service I'm providing as a makeup artist. Let me explain, an "everyday woman" is all of you. Working women, homemakers, mothers, married women, single women, young women, old women, urban/city women, suburban women, college student women, women who drive, women who take the bus/train, local women, all shapes, colors and sized women. I'm here for you because I am just like you. There isnt anything so extraordinary about me. I'm not super rich, famous or even super popular. That's what I love! I can relate to all of you as blog followers, bloggers yourselfs or even clients!

I remember when I first grew a love for makeup and how it felt so overwhelming. I would google and youtube different things and would be bamboozled by products, brand names, websites, articles, photos, reviews, blogs, videos, comments and stories from different places and people. I would feel disconnected like maybe I was in way over my head. I couldn't even afford most of the things I liked and forget being able to afford a makeup artist to do my makeup for me! It was then that I wished there was someone out there like me, someone who understood that everyday women want to look and feel beautiful as well. That's when I decided I would become that woman! The above quotes summarizes it all, I can make you up flawlessly and beautifully ,but if you don't feel it within nothing else will matter. I'm here to help you not only feel great and beautiful on the inside but the outside. I genuinely care about each and every supporter, fan or client. You all help make me who I am and I thank you!

So guess what this is all for you! We are going to have fun! Ask me any questions and I'll answer, if I don't have an answer I will find it for you and post it expeditiously. Email me or leave a comment and I'll write back. Offer suggestions or even insight on anything dealing with beauty or even women as a whole. We learn something new everyday and I want to learn from all of you. I can't wait! Let's get started!
